Victoria & Danny decided to tie the knot in the most intimate way possible. Secretly eloping to The Lake District just the two of them, where they exchanged rings at the stunning Lakeside Hotel & Spa in Windermere.

Getting married in secret can come with the odd obstacle, one of which is witnesses during the ceremony. Not only was I there to photograph their vows, Victoria & Danny asked me to be their witness too which I was thrilled and privileged to do for them along with a hotel manager.

After the I do’s and a glass of fizz we headed out to the grounds for some portraits. Working our way through the manicured gardens to the waters edge, a man approached us. Uncertain as to why he was coming out of his way to say congratulations as we were in a secluded spot on the lakeside, this incredible man offered us his boat for photos. Just…like…that. Shocked yet trying to remain calm, not knowing what boat to expect, is it a row boat? A speed boat? Eventually we walked down the jetty to his incredible yacht. 

Picking my jaw up off the floor, with my heart pounding out of my chest at this kind gesture, we headed upstairs to where the boat owner and his wife thought would make a great spot with the mountains in the background. Although it was an excellent spot, me being me had to push one step further. So I asked him if we could head to the front of the boat where we proceeded to have a 20 minute photo shoot. 

Before heading back down the jetty, I grabbed the owners email address so I could forward on a few images to them to show them the results of their generosity. Victoria, Danny & I left contemplating what had just happened, all of us still in disbelief. Victoria & Danny thinking how will the rest of the day compare and me thinking I’ve peaked in my photography career. 

We returned to their suite to say our goodbyes and group hug and I broke down in tears at how amazing our short time together had been! 

It’s safe to say whenever I photograph a wedding in the Lake District I always think about this day.
